Project Description
Colantonio replaced the existing metal panel roof, upgraded the existing structure, provided supplemental foundation and footing work, and installed over 1,900 solar panels on the roof of the Lowell Regional Transit Authority Bus and Maintenance Facility. The facility houses a state-of-the-art bus fleet including Clean Air Natural Gas and Hybrid Electric/Diesel buses, with solar trash compactors and high efficiency lighting.
This is the largest public transit solar project in Massachusetts. This new roof produces an annual average of 489,700 kWh, meeting 99.9% of the building’s electrical load. The clean energy generated is equivalent to 200 tons of coal burned, 28,100 gallons of gasoline burned, the carbon footprint of 44 households of four members, and the planting of 1,570 trees.
