Project Description
The DeCristofaro Learning Center Project, which once housed Eastern Nazarene College, is adjacent to Central Middle School and a daycare center. The original historic building was built in the early 1920’s as a Howard Johnson Candy Factory, and an addition was built in 1965. The school now serves as a practical learning center to facilitate the educational needs of special needs children in Quincy and surrounding communities. The playground was designed to accommodate needs of autistic and disabled children.
The work included the renovation and addition to the existing 23,330 square foot two- and three-story masonry building. Renovations consisted of mechanical and electrical upgrades, windows repairs, and replacements, as well as new finishes. Partial demolition of the existing building allowed for construction of the new addition of two new elevators. We repointed the existing brick and removed and reinstalled the structurally inadequate brick facade. We kept all the existing wood framing in place, making minor structural repairs. Extensive sitework included underground utilities, earthwork, and landscaping was performed.
Sustainable features include high-efficiency gas boilers, water source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging stations.
